The Memorial Service for Oregon State Police Sergeant John Burright will be held on August 25, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the Salem Armory 2310 17th St. NE, Salem, Oregon 97303. The service is open to the public.
Sergeant Burright passed away on May 4, 2021, after a nearly 20-year battle after a tragic traffic incident left him with debilitating and career-ending injuries. His injuries were suffered on September 4, 2001, when he was struck at the side of Interstate 5 while assisting a disabled motorist. The incident instantly claimed the lives of Sr. Trooper Maria Mignano and Albany Police Department Officer Jason Hoerauf. An emergency vehicle procession from Albany to the Salem Armory will precede the service. The family requests their privacy be respected and does not wish to provide statements to the media at this time. For planning purposes, we are inquiring of media outlets to notify us if they plan to cover the service. If multiple media outlets wish to report on the service, we ask those outlets to coordinate a pool camera. Any questions regarding the service should be directed to the Oregon State Police PIO email account at osppio@osp.oregon.gov. If members of the public wish to donate to support the Burright family, they may do so through the Oregon Fallen Badge Foundation. Donations may be made in person at any US Bank location or online through the “support us” tab on the Foundation’s website at www.oregonfallenbadge.com. All donations collected by the Foundation during this time will be given to the Burright family. Obituary for John Richard Burright - https://legcy.co/3xBOWwP -Oregon State Police

Read: "Let's all work together to end this pandemic" Salem, OR – State Treasurer Tobias Read issued the following statement on the Covid vaccine mandate for Oregon state employees. “I believe every person capable of getting the Covid vaccine should do so as quickly as possible. The vaccine is the safest, most effective way to stop this disease, get our kids back to school safely, help our small businesses keep their doors open, and protect our immune-compromised neighbors. “As neighbors, as a community, as family, and as state employees, now is the time to step up for one another. We have an urgent need to reduce the spread of Covid. Even with more than 2.3 million Oregonians already vaccinated, this is not a step that should be taken lightly. But as public servants, it’s our job to protect the public. Requiring our workforce to be vaccinated protects those we serve from unnecessary exposure and risk. And it improves our ability to perform the work that Oregonians expect from us. “This pandemic has tested us in a number of ways. It’s dangerous for us to stop seeing each other as fellow Oregonians with shared dreams and interests. Being hesitant and cautious about any required health procedure is understandable. And no one should be shamed for wanting to make the best decision for their loved ones. But there are ways for Oregonians to get their questions answered by qualified health care professionals who can confirm that the vaccine is safe, effective, and the best way to reduce the risk of serious disease. If you have questions about Covid vaccines, talk to your doctor or to a health care provider you trust. Let’s all work together to end this pandemic.”
UU. (EPA, por sus siglas en inglés). Preliminary investigation revealed a Grand Marquis, operated by Kyle Hansen, (45) of Molalla, was traveling northbound when it left the roadway, continued through a grassy shoulder, and crashed into a brick wall. As a result of the crash, Hansen suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. There was minimal impact on the traffic on Highway 213. A member of Oregon State Police’s Collision Reconstruction Unit responded and investigated the crash. OSP was assisted by Clackamas Fire, Clackamas ME’s Office, Oregon City Police Department, and Oregon Department of Transportation. -Oregon State Police On August 3, 2021, Oregon State Police Detectives served a search warrant at an illegal marijuana grow on Harpold Road, Malin, Oregon.
Information was developed that there was potentially an illegal marijuana grow at a 150-acre property on Harpold Road. Detectives investigated further and discovered over 85 – 30 foot by 100-foot greenhouses on the property that appeared to be growing illegal marijuana. As part of the investigation, detectives determined that there were no permits obtained to legally grow hemp or marijuana on the property, for any purpose. Additionally, as the investigation continued, detectives learned there was potentially theft of water and unlawful use of groundwater occurring as part of the illegal marijuana grow. Marijuana is a very water-intensive plant and since illegal grows don’t receive water permits, these grows deplete water at even more wasteful rates with no regard for sustainability. When the search warrant was served, detectives discovered over 22,000 illegal marijuana plants on the property. Preliminary tests confirmed the plants were marijuana and not hemp. Additionally, evidence was discovered to support the Unlawful Use or Appropriation of Ground Water. Detectives conducted multiple interviews and seized evidence from the property. Additional follow up investigation is being conducted; however, the following charges on the property owners are going to be referred to the Klamath County District Attorney’s Office: ORS 475B.337 Unlawful Possession of Marijuana/Hemp ORS 475B.349 Unlawful Manufacture of Marijuana ORS 475B.227 Conspiracy to Export Marijuana Items ORS 537.535 Unlawful Use or Appropriation of Ground Water Oregon State Police Klamath Falls Area Command Detectives were assisted by the Oregon State Police Southwest Region Drug Enforcement Section, Basin Interagency Narcotics Team, Klamath County Community Corrections, the Klamath Falls Police Department, the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office, and the Oregon Water Resources Department. -Oregon State Police On July 25, 2021, at approximately 7:38 A.M. OSP responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-84 near milepost 256. A silver Mazda CX-9 was traveling westbound on Interstate 84 when the driver fell asleep and left the roadway. The vehicle went around a guardrail and then down an embankment for approximately 200 feet until coming to a rest on the driver’s side on the banks of the Grande Ronde River. A witness to the crash was able to remove the two juvenile passengers from the vehicle, which was on fire. The witness told the Trooper that the vehicle was on fire when he arrived, but he was able to put the fire out with water from the river.
Firefighters and medical personnel arrived on the scene and had to extricate the driver and front passenger. The two adults were taken by life flight with serious injuries. The 2 juvenile passengers were taken to Grande Ronde Hospital. The Trooper on scene stated that Union County Deputy Hamilton went above and beyond carrying the injured little girl across the Grande Ronde River to get medical attention. OSP was assisted by Union County Sheriff’s Office, Union County Search & Rescue, La Grande Police Department, La Grande Fire Department, Island City Fire. Union Pacific Railroad personnel also responded to the scene to assist because OSP used the railroad right of way to extract the vehicle from the river. -Oregon State Police Manténgase hidratado, manténgase informado, recomiendan los funcionarios de salud
PORTLAND, Ore.

Stay hydrated, stay informed, health officials say
PORTLAND, Ore.—Oregonians should take steps to prevent heat-related illnesses that can lead to heat exhaustion and heat stroke as summer temperatures are expected to climb into triple digits in many parts of the state in the coming days, state public health officials say. “It’s critical that people do what they can to avoid the heat as temperatures get to the level where they can cause serious health problems,” said Richard Leman, public health physician at the Oregon Health Authority. “Temperatures that get above 100 are nothing to take casually. These conditions can be extremely dangerous if we don’t take care of ourselves.” According to the National Weather Service, many parts of Oregon are expected to reach record-breaking temperatures, with highs reaching dangerous levels over the weekend, including up to 107 in the Portland area; up to 112 in southcentral and southwest Oregon; and up to 104 in central and eastern Oregon. The Oregon Health Authority offers the following tips for staying safe and healthy during extreme heat conditions:
Those who exercise in extreme heat or work outdoors are more likely to become dehydrated and get heat-related illness and should pay particular attention to staying as cool and hydrated as possible. For more information, visit:
